Getting around the city

Both Uber and Cabify operate in Sevilla, apart from the regular taxis. There are also plenty of buses, rental bikes, a tram, and one underground line. In general you’ll find that it’s a small city and almost every landmark is within 40 min walking from the cathedral.

About Sevilla

Sevilla’s long history begins with its mythological foundation by Hercules. It has seen the birth of Roman emperor Hadrian and of countless artists like Velázquez. It also was the seat of islamic Al-Andalus and the trading post with America after Cristopher Columbus arrived there (and he’s buried in the Cathedral). It is also the birthplace of flamenco, the setting of many operas (Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Don Giovanni, Fidelio, and The Marriage of Figaro among many others), of series like Game of Thrones, and even a Doctor Who episode. We recommend you stay for a few days to see all the best landmarks including:

  • The Cathedral: It’s the largest gothic cathedral in the world. It still has the patio and the tower (“la Giralda”) of the islamic mosque that preceded it.
  • The Alcázar: an islamic royal palace, it’s worth spending a whole morning exploring its Mudéjar architecture and the lovely gardens.
  • Plaza de España and María Luisa park: after crossing the lush park you’ll find the huge plaza, with decorations representing the provinces of Spain. Keen film buffs will recognise it from Star Wars prequels and Lawrence of Arabia.
